The Chalet at Castle Hill Inn was the setting for Mandy and Alex's November wedding ceremony and reception. Alex just returned from a tour of duty at Guantanamo. Wedding Portrait

The value of a single photograph can not be measured in dollars and cents. This image was taken at a wedding in 2008.

While I was waiting for the bride to get ready and I looked over to find her grandmother sitting in this wonderful room and took this one photo. I didn't think anything special about the photo.
Just another portrait or so I thought.

During a recent design consult with the bride we were viewing her photos when she said " Oh, wow I need to get a print of that photo of grandmother because she passed away last year."  


One of the most difficult wedding concepts for most people to understand is how the emotional value of an image increases as time goes by.  


As photographers, we capture moments that may become more important than we ever expected or realized.

Visual Impact

My idea of artistic enhancement is to use Photoshop as though I was still in the darkroom making prints "back in the day". We used to use a grease pencil to show what needed to be done to different areas of the photograph. The photo on the left is the original "negative" after being "processed" in Camera Raw. Only basic adjustments (color balance, brightness, contrast and clarity) are made. My goal is to create visual impact with the subtle use of Photoshop tools. The finished image on the right expresses more of how I originally visualized the scene. Removing unwanted distracting elements, cropping, sharpening and burning/dodging all help to create  dramatic impact in grabbing  the viewers attention. All the images I use in the Slideshows and StoryBooks are artistically enhanced.
